A corporate portfolio website – reimagining Aquila

corporate portfolio website

We often work with large companies that have a lot of fantastic visual content and require a corporate portfolio website to show it off. Then there are other projects where we have to work hard on creating the striking imagery or impactful copy which brings the work to life.

One great example of a combination of these two approaches has been our work for Aquila Holdings, whose new website has just gone live.

We’re really thrilled with the outcome of this bold, modern site, our second website for Aquila, replacing an earlier project we had designed some four years ago. This new design aims to expand significantly on the developments that the company has been involved with – ultimately meaning a more graphic, beautiful presentation.

A new web design for Aquila

As we came to look anew at Aquila’s online offering, one thing that really stood out was the quantity of great photos we had for so many of the projects.

It seemed almost perverse that given that strong library, we only used one image on each.

Yet we also had to approach another practical consideration – that by contrast, some projects would only ever have one image, or might have photos supplied from construction sites as the projects commenced… and some of these might be taken on phones and emailed in a small format.

So we’ve created at the heart of this new site the ability to include huge, high quality professional photography and smaller simpler photos that explain the progress of a project.

Another practical consideration is that the entire ‘Commercial and Industrial’ portfolio features aerial shots of the, in some cases, multi-hectare sites.

These photos were inevitably taken by different photographers, in different ways, at different resolutions.

To ‘standardise’ these photos, we’ve highlighted the areas covered by each project and using a common graphic approach, created a clean, fresh set on the index page.

A brand new photo shoot for 2016

Before beginning work on the new Aquila corporate portfolio website, we discussed with the team the need for a fresh series of photography and it was decided to create a bespoke set for the new site.

Before the previous website I had worked with photographer Alistair Nicholls on custom imagery for Aquila – and we re-teamed this summer to shoot four new sites.

On the hottest summer day of 2016 in mid-July, after a long wait during rainy June, we had our perfect photo shoot day. Hopping from site to site, we drove around Essex indulging in both the air conditioned environments of Yo! Sushi and Jamie’s Trattoria in the heart of the shopping district – as well as Aquila’s developments in residential areas of Chelmsford.

But the results speak for themselves – the photographs are really strong – and I have included a few of the photos we took in this post.
