Design for financial services private family offices

We are often approached for identity design by financial services businesses. Their brief can often request a complete branding job that gives them a distinctive visual look but one which feels very much at home among their contemporaries. Increasingly in the last year these projects have involved design for financial services private family offices.

This sort of work has a new appeal as it is inevitably more personal than other corporate design and about the personalities at the heart of the company whether it be a startup or established business.

A successful project means understanding that an undertaking of this kind involves an elegance of design for sure but simultaneously transparency and discretion.

It’s an intriguing mix!

Subtlety and discretion at the heart of the design process

No matter the scale of the business we work for, our aim is to bring a singular approach – focussing both on the brief in hand and the target audience. In the case of family offices however, the dynamic is rather more tilted to the aesthetic proposals of the directors. Their end clients are people they know well and the brand is often created without the intent to market it.

With this in mind our design for KinKane Capital has been created with a geometric shape of three interlocking shapes representing the founding directors. Tones of blue intersect to build a whole, which together combines to create an almost Celtic graphic icon.

In addition to a single identity, today we always push a project of this kind further, creating a visual brand language which can be applied across many media. With this in mind, we developed the iconography of KinKane resulting in a graphic pattern where the icon tessellates – and then evaporates.

Keen to deploy this concept within an original website design, we animated the brand pattern so visitors to the site see it softly move behind the type on the site. Our idea was to create texture within a graphic, modern site. The end product is visually striking but sets out only the information that KinKane want to divulge about their work.

Alongside smart stationery printed on a cool blue card, the overall effect KinKane Capital’s new branding presents isn’t of a startup at all. Instead it rather echoes the reality of the level of expertise behind the company – that of an established, experienced business.
