Richard Chapman Studio is a team based consultancy offering high quality graphic and web design
Let's work together
We’ve been working on design projects for our clients for more than ten years and thrive on a challenge. That’s whether you’re a small businesses who needs creative inspiration to get going, or a larger company ready to realise its full potential.
Starting up or beginning again?
We love both challenges. Brief us on what you’re after and we can show you a set of imaginative ideas you might have been expecting — and plenty you weren’t.
Custom web design
Let’s forget the jargon
We believe in putting the user at the centre of the web experience, creating distinctive, original layouts while avoiding bells and whistles which distract rather than enhance a visit to your site.
From business card to billboard
In an increasingly digital world, we believe the physical printed object has a vital role. Tactile design creates an impact and gets results in a way that more ephemeral approaches just don’t.
How we work
Every time we begin a project it’s with a different set of requirements. A whole new brief.
Rather than see a project as a standalone entity, we start by sitting down and learning how our clients speak to their peers, colleagues and audience and examining how this all unfolds.
What they do in turn defines what we do.
First and foremost, we figure out what every client actually needs to best represent their organisation. A clear, rational approach, using the best tools for the job – maybe even collaborating to ensure the work captures a brand’s essence.
We start by devising a corporate identity and the way it appears at every customer touchpoint. If branding is already sorted, we can re-think the online presence starting with the structure; refining images and copy with a nifty attention to detail.
We’re proud to say that we have been nominated in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 across multiple categories at the print industry’s Solutions Awards — and our design work on the Shine School Media project has been a winner.
Who we are
Following training at the (then) London College of Printing and a design degree at Goldsmiths College, Richard, imagining a future designing beautiful magazines, worked at London publications such as World of Interiors, House & Garden, Brides, Harpers & Queen, Tatler and Vogue and then in New York City at Premiere and New York magazine.
However, destiny had different plans and in 1999, he joined Conran Design Group. During his four years there he worked on clients as diverse as Shell, First Choice Holidays, The Royal Mail, Citroën, Ideal Standard and Sainsbury’s.
In 2003 he left Conran to form his own consultancy which as it has grown has become Richard Chapman Studio.
The company has gone on to design for high-profile clients such as The Royal Society of Arts, Rosewood London, St Paul’s Cathedral, The British Academy, Bulgari Hotel London, Yamaha and high street retail chain Oddbins… as well as many clients whose names you may not recognise, but have been working with the company since its inception.
Richard never imagined starting a design consultancy, never mind employing people, so the fact that it has worked out that way continues to surprise, delight and occasionally terrify him.
Lead brand and digital designer
Sak is from Finland originally and came to the UK to study Graphic Design at Ravensbourne. He joined us from PriestmanGoode, specialists in the design of aircraft interiors, airports and public transport and high speed trains.
In his work at the studio, Sak has worked on brand and digital client work for our headline clients such as Bulgari Hotel London, Taylor & Hart and Yamaha.
Sak’s focus is a holistic, thorough approach to our creative work. He has designed and developed the brand concept and execution – as well as a 150-page website – for literary agency Northbank Talent Management at launch. In addition, he has also devised the launch branding and online presence for financial services business Oxford Investment Consultants and ‘the ARC’ a pioneering day centre for learning disabled people in Sussex.
Branding and print designer
Hailing from North London, Jake originally trained as an Industrial Designer at Loughborough before changing his focus to graphic design.
Jake has worked for four years as a freelancer, focussing on identity and branding, advertising and animation design. He’s particularly interested in the ways brands can be applied to different media, from something as simple as a business card to vehicle branding or way-finding.
Having joined us in the Autumn of 2018, Jake works with a range of our clients including brand and print design projects for lifestyle concierge Thadeus London, financial services business KinKane Capital and wine importer Maison Marques et Domaines.
