Travel trade event design: the FBR Travel Chronicles at DUCO Milan

The annual DUCO Travel Summit, a niche, destination-oriented event, took place in Milan last week, hosted by DUCO founder Carolina Perez. This is the story of how we worked with one of our longest standing clients to create fresh business impact.

We’ve long believed in the power of print to tell the story of what a company is doing today, especially at industry events that involve a lot of networking. There’s a potent currency in handing over a document to your longtime partners or prospective clients that pleases both audiences. The impact such work creates feels very much of the moment and particularly when the design is great and content full of opinions and stories, it becomes an instant talking point.

Working with our longtime client, hotel PR specialist Flavia Brutti-Righetti, we created such a project: an elegant shortform newspaper printed on thick card which showcased a set of the beautiful range of hotels she represents. We named the paper the ‘FBR Travel Chronicles,’ filling it with a series of snappy conversations with founders and general managers, backed up with fantastic photographs in some of the most beautiful settings in Italy.

The hotels featured range from the iconic Le Sirenuse on the Amalfi Coast, the Abi d’Oru on the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia to the beautiful Borgo Pignano in Tuscany. Each of the founder interviews discussed the latest innovations at their properties with the idea being to provide ‘breaking news’ across this set of incredible venues.

Talking to Flavia after DUCO Italy concluded, I was thrilled to hear her take on how the project was received:

“The FBR Chronicles had a very good impact during the DUCO Italy event.

The first issue was shared with plenty of luxury travel advisors that attended. People told me they really enjoyed the concept and the fact that it was an interesting read, in particular the owners’ interviews.

Basically, it was something really different from what the travel trade can find online. They really complimented the printed format and quality of the finish, so all in all, the whole piece had really great feedback.

Thank you so much! As always, it’s great to work with you and your team, Richard! I really appreciate your support.”

A final note about a great project

It’s great to hear that from Flavia, as when we held our copies of the Travel Chronicles, we really felt it had exceeded expectations. The end result balances a sense of being amid the heart of the Italian travel trade and providing genuinely interesting interviews with some of today’s most experienced hospitality tastemakers.

Most of all, when creating a piece of travel trade event design such as this, we always ask the question: is this creating an unusual and impactful talking point? By combining a piece of work that serves both Flavia’s PR business and the hotels she represents, we’ve helped spark that initial conversation that helps build business.
